Great News

It's up and running again

We will all benifit from the savings by Council, we will be helping the planet by recycling.

And it is in the best location, easy access off magor roads, the nearest house from the compound allocated for this work is over 250 meters and the plant that does the recycling is another 30 to 50 metres away, the plant is located between the old Pacific Hwy + Railway on one side and the Freeway on the other side,

It is that secluded that if you were not told where it is situated, you would probably never know it existed

Mt Kuring-gai the facts and fiction
One lane bridge with guard rails, maximum load 23 tons 10k-speed limit applies
Part of the road inside the work area, landscaped on the edge to the fence
The heart of the recycling plant
Sediment pond.. water supply for the spray units to keep the dust down
one of the many spray units.. plants don't mind the water either
Clear access behind the barrier

Fiction

Fact

Running at a loss...
Making enough to repay loan....and then some

A disgrace and an embarrassment to the Council and Shire
Outstanding success...won awards.. first in its category and second place overall in NSW... Achievements to be proud of

Does nothing for the Shire
Recycles hard fill instead of dumping in another Shires backyard

Unnecessary cost to rate payers
Saves tipping fees, reduces unnecessary purchase costs of similar end use products

Advocate June 24th disappointing to see in the Advocate June 10th that someone knows so little...
That someone was on Council and knew the facts, he stated the facts,.....not fiction

Bridge.. Another Granville disaster waiting to happen
Totally different design

Bridge is dangerous
State Rail inspects the bridge on a regular baises...the bridge is declared safe for this usage

Over infestation of weeds
Check the pictures.. minor weed problems do exist on the site and are dealt with in the appropriate mannor..most home owners in the Shire have to deal with weeds on a regular bases, Councils are not exempt from this fact of life and we need to work to control weeds to

Because of this facility, there is a massive weed infestation
Before the Council took over the site, there was this massive weed infestation which Council cleared from the imeadiate site, and now work hard to stop the invasion of weeds from around the site.

built on "pristine bushland"
The bridge (top left photo) IS the old Pacific Hwy bridge over the railway... one can see remnants of the old road through the site... built on "pristine bushland"??? no.. built on the old Pacific Hwy

The water sprayed from the water cannons is like an airosol spray with chemicals and pollutants from polluted ponds
The latest tests on the water (end 2004) states that it is clean to the extent that if you drank it, there would be little if any side effects

Is noisy and unsightly
Cannot be heard or seen from any road or house (nearest house is app 1/4 kilometer away

..Weeds can always be a problem, (even at my place), if those that complain were to use their energy to form a bush regeneration group and volunteered to help, then weeds would almost be non existent

It is now December 2004 and the DA is coming back to Council, but quess what, another stall tactic, a notice of motion to stall even further, the restarting of the plant,...and what for????

Apparently, there are some who cannot work out the figures in the report to see that the plant IS/WAS saving money when it was in operation. Of course, with the plant stopped and all these costly reports required, WE, THE RATE PAYERS, SEE NO INCOME FROM THE PLANT TO COVER THESE COSTS, IN FACT WE ARE PAYING FOR THE PREVILEGE OF ALL THESE COSTS.

Councillor Horne and Councillor Evans were not voting against the tests that were being recommended, but rather the inexcusable loss of time and money with the plant shut down as the tests and any necessary action, if required, could have been implemented while the plant was running

Looking back now, the calling for a division on the vote shows my ability to stand for that which I believe is best for the Shire and that is the facts....not fiction

Question............ Is it not wise to recycle and save money???..... does this not help the environment and also allow Council spending on other more important projects in our Shire, instead of allowing another Shire to make money off us????
