Nick Berman – committed to our local area Nick Berman was born and educated in the northern suburbs of Sydney, and has lived here most of his life. Nick has a Commerce degree majoring in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management. He has worked in all levels of government and currently runs a registered training organisation based in Sydney. Nick played cricket in the Grade and Shires competitions for over 20 years and still plays the odd game of tennis in the local competition when time allows. Nick and his wife Christine chose to live in Hornsby because of the quality of life the Bushland Shire offers local families. As a B Ward councillor between 1999 and 2004, and Deputy Mayor between 2002 and 2004, Nick Berman played an active role in supporting Council's widening of the Duffy Avenue Bridge and as a member of the Dartford Road Working Party helped drive the construction of the Thornleigh Indoor Sports Centre. He has also served as the Chair of the Hornsby Mall Committee and the Hornsby CBD Steering Committee. As a Member of Hornsby's Olympic Torch Relay Committee he helped organise the community celebrations that took place when the Torch visited Pennant Hills Park - arguably the biggest event the Bushland Shire has seen. Steve Evans Sensible Leadership Produces Steve was born in a little town called Wondai in Queensland and at the age of one, after the death of his dad, moved back to Normanhurst with his mother and brother. He works in partnership with his wife in a printing business, is a member of Cherrybrook Victory Christian Church, Westleigh Progress Association, the Hornsby District Chamber of Commerce and Asquith Leagues Club. Steve has now served on Council for four & a half years representing B Ward and for the last eighteen months as Deputy Mayor. While serving on Council, Steve has supported all forms of sports; kept a watchful eye on the budget (external auditor ranks Hornsby Council in the group of well managed Councils); held the position of Councillor's representative on the Traffic committee; served on the Aquatic committee, Employment & Economic Development Taskforce; Chair of both the Community, Cultural and Recreation Facilities Taskforce and the Dural Service Centre Working Party; a supporter of the Hornsby Relay for Life and an avid supporter of rain water harvesting, hosting Council run workshops at his residence demonstrating his own system on rain water harvesting. Steve, when re-elected to Council, will continue working hard for the residents of Hornsby Shire and along with Nick Berman re-elected as Mayor, Hornsby Council will continue to have high quality and effective leadership.
